Electronic Kits
Main Electronic Kit Manufacturers:
- Ramsey Kits, USA.
- Kemo,
Germany.
- Cana-Kits, BC, Canada. Good
supplier but small range.
- Oatley
Electronics, Sydney, Australia. Moving away from
'kits' and moving to surplus sales. (9/2000)
- Velleman Kits, Belgium.
The website is also moving away from 'kits' and into
other areas of their business like product design, custom
keyboards, electronic components, tools, consumer electronics
etc. These are the main profit centers of their business. Rate
of new kits issued over the last year has slowed. (9/2000)
- Rainbow Kits, USA.
- Veronica, UK.
Partnership gone bad. So now two Veronicas.
- Veronica FM, UK The
more 'original' Veronica.
- Suma Designs, UK.
Surveillance.
- North Country
Radio, USA.
- Tree of Knowledge, Israel.
Smaller Manufacturers and Other Kit Information:
- Harry Lythall's Homebrew Page.
- Lucid Technologies
- Wirz Electronics. LCD Kits
- Grantronics,
Australia
- Mantis
Electronics, melbourne, Australia.
- Scott Edwards Electronics. LCD
Kits. Serial in, graphics out
- HobbyTron, USA. Gary Gibson.
- Magenta, UK. Once
very big in the UK but never saw the world as its market. Got
stuck in the UK. Now a shadow of its former self.

- Silicon Chip,
Australia. Quite good although I cannot fathom the reason
for some of the article choices. Railway kits are featured but
and proven non-sellers in Australia. The 2/2000 features a chip
which was discontinued about 18 months ago (LM3909!) My current
4/2000 edition admits that the Editor cannot understand the
Internet! Increasingly parochial.

Traps for the unwary: does it come with an assembler and
programming software? If not, where do you get them. Is there
technical support? Does it have on-board firmware which will need
upgrading (at a price) when new devices are released? Are a PCB
and components provided or do you have to make your own? (What use
is free software if you have to make and produce your own PCB?)
Remember the more 'free' it is, the less support you will
certainly get.
